Stop 2 For the MNR Road Trip For Change: London!

Maryam and Nivaal Rehman | London, England

After spending our first day of this trip in Oxford, we headed to London! This was another one of those locations that we had always wanted to visit, and we were so happy to finally visit! We were also lucky to have really great weather when we visited London, as it was sunny throughout our trip. Some of the highlights of our trip included going on a hop-on hop-off tour of the whole city, hearing Big Ben's bells for the last time before it closed for repairs for four years, and visiting the famous department store, Harrods.

We spent our first day going around the city and visiting the major attractions, and the next day spending some more time to visit Harrods and get some shopping done.

We absolutely loved the architecture in London, especially in the Roman area of the city. In Toronto, we have a lot more modern buildings and so it was really unique for us to see a city with such detailed marble work in the buildings. We also loved seeing the River Thames, another unique component to the city that we don't see everyday in Toronto, which has a waterfront that connects to Lake Ontario, but not a river that runs in the middle of the city.

During the second day, we were awe-inspired by the world famous department store and got a couple of souvenirs to take the memories home with us. We also saw the Princess Diana Memorial downstairs and got a chance to write in the book of condolences! We've added that picture in as well. London is a beautiful depiction of the English culture, but is a multicultural hub for people from around the world.

The food in London was also really good - we tried the world-famous fish and chips in a restaurant next to the River Thames, and this was definitely the highlight of our food during this visit.

We travelled around the city by taking the tube or "subway," which was a really good choice because it was not only sustainable, but it was also faster. Overall, we enjoyed our time in this city tremendously. It was filled with people of so many different cultures, backgrounds, and surrounded by gorgeous buildings with incredible architecture. We created a vlog with the perfect itinerary for a day spent in London:

Here are some more pictures from our time in the city:
