World Environment Day Event in Whitby with Blue Dot

On June 5th, people from around the world are coming together to celebrate World Environment Day. To recognize what makes our planet so amazing, and to emphasize the importance of protecting it. We worked with the David Suzuki Foundation’s Blue Dot campaign and our school’s Environmental Council, to host an event for World Environment Day.

We held our event a couple of days in advance of the official World Environment Day, and did a Facebook LIVE of the event on Blue Dot’s Facebook page.

This was the kick-off of a series of LIVE events hosted around the country, in cities like Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. Each event had a live audience, as well as a live-stream on Facebook so Canadians and people internationally could watch the event.

Our audience consisted of several classes from grades 9-12 of students, as well as several teachers. It is so important to come together for events like this, because it gives people the opportunity to learn more about the environment and how to take action. Especially with young people who want to make a difference, it is important to educate them on how they can make a difference.

This event featured local environmental activists and eco-heroes, who discussed their experiences with environmental issues, and what caused them to take action for the environment. They spoke about the connection that the environment has with our every day lives, and how much the environment impacts us.

We were two of the people who spoke at this event, about our personal experiences with the environment, and how we decided to take action.

The changing climate and global warming impact so many aspects of our lives, from health, to education, and if we don’t take action now, it might be too late. It also celebrated Blue Dot’s efforts with advocating for the Right to a Healthy Environment within Canada, and gave students the opportunity to take action by signing the Blue Dot petition.

Overall, it was a great honour to host the first-ever Facebook LIVE event for Blue Dot’s World Environment Day Campaign this year. We hope you enjoy watching the video and learn more about why you should get involved and help take care of our planet.
